There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed. – Ernest Hemingway
The best stuff comes from our soul. Only those who have been touched deeply can touch and move others deeply. Unfortunately, we hesitate to go there. We tend to guard that place from which these deep truths flow. Why?
- We are ashamed of our failures along the road to discovery, but the best way to release shame in ourselves and to relieve shame in other is to talk about it. That doesn’t mean we are constantly waving our dirty laundry in people faces, it just means being honest about the things we all struggle with.
- We are afraid to tell a truth that others will disagree with, but the most insightful people throughout human history have always been those who see things more objectively and simply, from the outside. That means opposition from those vested in the system.
- We just can’t get in touch with that still small internal voice, though it is our best guide, it is hard to ignore the noise and expectations that surround us and have infiltrated our being.
- We think there isn’t an audience for something from our heart, but that is the very thing people are hungering for.
So, I hope whatever you write is honest, true to yourself, and gutsy. That will connect.
